This unpaid volunteer position is an excellent opportunity to work with professional and community leaders while developing organizational, communication and administrative skills. Allied Arts of Yakima Valley (est. 1962) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the coordination and promotion of arts events in the Valley. GENERAL
• Maintain office procedures: answer phones, respond to emails, provide information to the public/members/volunteers/staff, filing, supplies, mail, creating spreadsheets, drafting correspondence, minutes, agendas, memos, etc.
• Assist on grants, database management, web updates, and communication with patrons, participants, artists and other community members.
• Staff events like fundraisers, movies in the park, gallery openings, etc.
TIME COMMITMENT: 5-10 hrs/week
• Hours are to be scheduled by the student, with the approval of Allied Arts supervisors. Ideal hours would be 3-5pm
• The office is open 9am to 5pm daily.
DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS
• Strong organizational skills/detail oriented
• Ability to handle numerous projects and tasks concurrently
• Ability to work independently as well as a team
• Enjoy working with a variety of people
• Sense of hospitality
• Enthusiasm for Mission of Allied Arts
• Some Computer experience (Macintosh environment in the office)
• Willing to learn computer skills to increase information availablity
In order to be eligible to become an Yakima Fire reserve, candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age, posses a current Washington State Driver's License, have a clean driving record, successfully pass a medical exam and a thorough background investigation.
The hiring process includes an application period, an oral interview and a background investigation. Based upon current needs, the Yakima Fire Department periodically tests for reserves and then an eligibility list is established. Basic training lasts 2-3 days with update trainings monthly.
